Evelyn Mary Barrett Hubert, age 89, passed away on June 13, 2013. She was born on May 18, 1924, in Columbia, SC to Earl and Eva Barrett. Her father, Dr. Barrett, a Professor with 5 doctorate degrees, moved to Indiana, where she later attended Ball State University. After her second year of college, she married Philip C. Hubert, and for one year lived in Florida in a travel trailer and worked picking oranges for spending money. They went back to Indiana and had their first son, Doug, in 1951. They then moved to Hamlin, Texas, then to Abilene, Texas, where their daughter, Cindy was born in 1954. Evelyn had the hardest job in the world — a stay at home Mother and wife. She enjoyed the summers at the cabin on Possum Kingdom Lake, doing yard work, planting trees and fishing off the dock. They lived in Dallas, San Antonio, Fort Worth, then eventually in North Richland Hills. When Philip died in 1996, she became very active in Silver Sneakers at the YMCA on Davis Blvd. in North Richland Hills, then at the YMCA in Bedford, and active at the Dan Echols Senior Center in North Richland Hills. In 2006, she began writing an article for The Northeast Times newspaper, called "Turn Off the TV — Get Off Your Rocking Chair" telling about all the activities for Seniors in her area. When North Richland Hills began the process to build a new Senior Center, she was very active in the design of the new building, along with helping decorate. She loved yard work, sewing, cooking and being a mother. She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Sister, Brother and Husband. She is survived by her son, Doug Hubert; daughter, Cindy & husband Curtis Quisenberry; granddaughter, Jennifer Quisenberry; grandson, Spencer Smith.
