Lou Dodson has been a household word in the Hurst community since 1958. She immediately became involved in school, business, church, and community endeavors. Teaching has been Lou’s great passion. She taught third grade at West Hurst Elementary, then Stonegate Elementary for 25 years. Lou was named “Teacher-of-the-Year” in 1977. After retiring, she tutored and taught Spanish speaking people to read English through programs at Hurst Public Library and the Cornerstone Mission in Fort Worth. Her teaching continued in her church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and developed classes for young married couples. Today it is impossible to go anywhere in the Mid-Cities without hearing “Mrs. Dodson. Mrs. Dodson, Remember me?” A former student is soon giving an update of his or her life and family while reminiscing with a well-remembered teacher. She served on the HEB Education Foundation, Santa USA, and the Hurst Public Library board. Her work on the library board has contributed and helped provide the Hurst community with a wide-ranging programs enjoyed today. Survivors: She was survived by her loving husband, Clyde “Bud” Dodson, son, Keith Dial, daughter, Julie Dial, step-daughter, Danna Murdock, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Sister, Suzi Powers and brother, Lee Benson.
