Mary Bernice Hardin Sargent passed away peacefully on November 14, 2016. There will be a memorial service on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 2:00pm at William C. Martin United Methodist Church, 2621 Bedford Road Bedford, Texas. There will be a graveside service officiated by her grandson, Jeff Barnhart in Lubbock at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to: Bedford Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, 2121 L. Don Dodson Dr. Community Services Division, Bedford, TX. 76021. She was born on March 4, 1925 in Paris, Texas to Sydney Wilburn Shew and Mabel Odell Williams Shew. She was preceded in death by her husbands Jim Hardin and Curtis Sargent, 1 sister, Mildred Hazel Loggins and 3 brothers, Loy Raymond, Howard William and Sydney Wilburn Jr. and 1 granddaughter. She married Jessie Edwin (Jim) Hardin on June 29, 1943 in Greenville, Texas. They lived in Orange, California while Jim served in the U.S. Navy. They lived in Greenville Texas, Ralls Texas, and Estes Park Colorado. They settled in Lubbock, Texas where they owned and operated Clovis Road Garage until Jim’s death in October, 1966. Soon after Daddy’s death she started driving a semi-truck over the road for the next 10 years. She married Curtis Sargent in 1982. After his death she retired to live an active life on her one acre lot at Pat Mayse Lake just outside Paris. She occasionally drove the fire truck for the Lamar Point Volunteer Fire Department and worked for the Paris Independent School District. She was an avid fisherwoman and taught her grandsons Michael and Mark to fish. She loved to putter around in and took great care of her land herself. She walked 3 to 5 miles in the morning and evening most days. Our mother, grandmother, aunt & friend loved life, her church and was a witness to her faith in God to everyone. She will be laid to rest next to Daddy. She is survived by 2 daughters, Pamela and husband Billy Lynch of Bedford, Texas and Patricia and husband Ian Williams of Plain City, Utah. She has 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
