Matthew Parks Land, 38, United States Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Arlington. Funeral: Noon Monday, July 9, at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, 5713 Forest Hill Drive in Fort Worth. Interment: 3 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to return to Forest Hill Presbyterian Church afterwards to share food and memories. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moore Bowen Funeral Home, 4216 S. Bowen Road, in south Arlington. Matt was born in Fort Worth on July 26, 1973, and spent most of his life in Arlington. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1998 and did a tour of duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, followed by being stationed in Yuma, Ariz., deployment to Japan, and most recently in Dallas-Fort Worth serving as NCOIC of recruiting station Lewisville. He was a Fort Worth Golden Gloves Super Heavyweight boxing champion. Matt was a devoted, loving husband and father and a compassionate person who touched and inspired countless people's lives. He will be truly missed by every person who had the privilege to know him. Survivors: Wife, Nicole Land; daughters, Madeline Land and Marilyn Land; father, Larry Land; mother, Julie Hawkins; brother, Mark Land; and grandmother, Marie Collier.
