Raymond Compton

HURST -- Raymond Travis Compton, 85, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in Hurst. Raymond was born in Chickasha, Okla., on Dec. 23, 1928, to Arthur James and Grace Vinita Crowell Compton. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served 20 years and retired in 1966. He served 12 years overseas in Germany, Japan and Korea, and saw action in the Korean War in 1950 with the 24th Infantry Division. He married Nelly Auguste Reinhardt on Dec. 4, 1954, in Germany. After retirement from the military, they moved to Ardmore, Okla., then to Hurst, where he worked for Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Mostek Corp. in Carrollton and WinSystems in Arlington. While in the U.S. Army, Ray was trained in electronics and on the Nike guided missiles. After the military he worked on aircraft and with semi-conductors. Raymond loved hunting and would go any time he had the chance. Raymond and Nelly have two children, Grace Atwood and Mike Compton and wife, Victoria; one granddaughter, Cassandra Atwood, all of Medina; four stepgrandchildren, Dustin Biel, Carmen Biel, Angela Borgeson and Abe Biel; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
