BEDFORD -- Shirley Turpin Elsey Gresham passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, in Bedford at the age of 94 years. Service: 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Parkwood Retirement Community, 2700 Parkview Drive, Bedford. Memorials: Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Born in Taylor on June 7, 1917, just before the U.S. entered World War I, to a carpenter and a housewife, she began her great adventure. She attended the University of Texas and majored in zoology. She worked at Woolworth's to pay for her education and rode two trolleys to get to work every day. A kind and loving person who enjoyed life and people to the fullest extent, Shirley loved to be busy and creative to the very end of her life. She was preceded in death by her husbands, E.M. Elsey and John Gresham. Also passing before her were her brothers, John, James and Thomes Evan Jr. Survivors: She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Cindy and husband, Earl Baker; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many friends.
