Mr. Montgomery was born Oct. 30, 1943, in Lake Charles, La. He attended Lake Charles High School. He graduated from LSU in 1966 with a B.S. Vern was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a F-4 fighter pilot for seven years.
