Warren Hoyle Young, Jr., aged 76, died on Monday August 22, 2016 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Byrd Satterfield Young in July. Warren was born on October 15, 1939 in Burgaw, North Carolina the son of Dr. Warren Hoyle Young, DDS and Mattie Kate Thomas Young. Warren graduated from Duke University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1961, where he met his best friend for life, Byrd Austin Satterfield. They married at Duke Chapel in 1962, and started their married life while Warren received his Masters and PhD at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, followed by his employment by NASA in helicopter aeronautical research. His colleagues awarded him the Order of the Half Ace for the many helicopter models he destroyed in wind-tunnel research. Warren and Byrd raised their three children in Gloucester, Virginia, Warren Hoyle Young III, Kathryn Byrd Young, and Jessica Wynne Young Smith before moving to Texas in 1983, where Warren joined Bell Helicopter Textron to lead their research team. Warren also served as president of the American Helicopter Society’s Southwest Chapter during this time. Warren continued his passion for technology after his retirement in 2006 by acting as a consultant to his daughter Jessica’s intellectual property practice. Warren is survived by his three children, four grandchildren, Austin Hoyle Young, Ethan David Young, Madeline Kate Young, and Sarah Wynne Smith, and one great-granddaughter, Tessa Kate Herrera, and by his sister Mary Susan Bruttomesso, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Byrd Austin Satterfield Young, aged 76, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at her home in Colleyville, Texas. Service: Byrd requested a private service and burial. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her and her family through her illness. Byrd was born on August 22, 1939, in Timberlake, N.C., the daughter of Byrd Isaac Satterfield and Sarah Winnie Jones Satterfield. Byrd graduated from Duke University in 1961 where she met her future husband and best friend, Warren Hoyle Young Jr. Byrd and Warren wed at Duke Chapel in 1962 and were married for over 53 years. They shared so many wonderful memories and cherished each day that they spent together. Byrd and Warren raised three children in Gloucester, Va.,, Warren Hoyle Young III, Kathryn Byrd Young and Jessica Wynne Young Smith, before moving to Texas in 1984. Byrd enjoyed successful careers as a civil servant, teacher and real estate agent. Besides her husband and three children, Byrd is survived by her four grandchildren, Austin Hoyle Young, Ethan David Young, Madeline Kate Young, Sarah Wynne Smith, and her great-grandchild, Tessa Kate Herrera. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Emily and Charles Edward Blackburn; her sister, Winnie Davis Cheney; her sister-in-law and her husband, Susan and Raymond I. Bruttomesso; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
