Barbara Teel

Barbara Louise Teel, 87, longtime resident of Mexia, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Parkview Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. James Hooper and Rev. Rick Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 21st at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Born in Ferris, Texas on March 20, 1926, Barbara was the daughter and seventh child of James Preston and Lula Daniel Douglass. Her family moved to Mexia when she was three. She graduated from Mexia High School in 1943. In March of 1943, she married C. W. Teel. They embarked upon a marriage that lasted 58 years. Together they owned and operated a small business and produced a wonderful family of eight children. She lived her life devoted to her marriage, her family and her love of God. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for 75 years where she taught Sunday School for 64 years, sang in the choir and served as church secretary for 19 years before retiring shortly before her husband’s death in 2001. Throughout her life, she shared her father’s passion of baseball and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers. She also loved to crochet, crafting numerous beautiful afghans cherished by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters; and one brother. Barbara is survived by her eight children: Rev. Lain Teel and wife, Joanie of Corsicana, Randy Teel and wife, Joan of Mexia, Joe Teel of Mexia, Marsha Smith of Mexia, Toni Douglass of Waco, David Teel and wife, Frankie of Austin, Mike Teel and wife, Darlene of Mexia and Mary Castillo and husband, Felipe of League City. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who were the joy of her life. Pallbearers will be grandsons Steven Teel, Jason Teel, Bobby Joe Teel, Kyle Teel, Jack Hardison, Jason Emmele and Philip Castillo.
