Bobby Charles Strother, 76, of Mexia died Sunday morning, August 31, 2008. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, at 11 am, at the Calvary Baptist Church with burial to follow at Lost Prairie Cemetery. The Reverends James Hooper, Rick Gray and Marcus Sheffield will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Terry Lynn Strother, Todd Hindall, Wayne Strother, Jason Pringle, Jeff Lummus and Casey Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Family visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. "Bob" was born February 29, 1932 in Mexia, the third of four sons and one daughter to D.K. and Leta Strother. He lived here most of his life where he married his wife, Bobbie Lummus on December 1, 1951 and had been married for 56 and1/2 years at the time of his death. He worked most of his life in the oil field business in Texas and Colorado before he became self-employed as a carpenter until his retirement in 1980. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, D.K. and Leta Strother and three brother, Don Strother, Cecil Strother and Joe Lynn Strother. Bob loved a lot of things in life, but most of all he loved his family and was cherished by each member. He enjoyed watching wrestling, playing dominoes, telling jokes and eating popcorn. Whenever asked by someone for a favor or for help, he never said no, but always replied "I'll sure try". Bob was known for his quiet demeanor and always having a joke or funny story to share to anyone who would listen. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending with his wife. His favorite scripture was Phil. 4:4 which says "Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice. Bob, "Papa" is survived by his wife, Bobbie of Mexia: two daughter, Marilyn Shamblin and husband Bud of Mexia, and Sue Strother of Mexia; Grandchildren, Shayna Mills and husband, Casey of Dallas; Eric Shamblin of Waco; Brandon Shamblin and wife Terry Lind of San Antonio, and one great-granddaughter, Casey Marilyn Mills of Dallas. He is also survived by one sister, Lynda Stratton of Michigan as well as many nieces and nephews.
