Bruce Sawyer Obituary

Mr. Bruce Don Sawyer, 68 of Mexia passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005 in Dallas. He was born November 9, 1937 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Robert Bruce and Elva Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mexia. He was an English professor having taught some 43 years at the High School and College level. He was currently teaching at Navarro College and Coolidge High School. Mr. Sawyer received his BBA from Lamar University and his Masters Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. He was a former Mexia ISD Board member and also a former teacher at Mexia High School. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife - Janis Ann Sawyer of Mexia, children - Kellye Bennett and husband Terry, Mark Sawyer of Mexia, Mike Sawyer and wife Kim of Kansas City, MO., and Kristin Rhodes and husband Scott of Hewitt. He is also survived by his grandchildren - Jennifer Bennett, Jordan Bennett, Jonathan Rhodes, Jeremiah Rhodes and Charles Sawyer. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Mexia with the Reverend Jeff Wright officiating. The family has requested memorials be made to the Mexia Public School Museum in lieu of flowers.
