Carolyn Shumate Obituary

Carolyn Louise Shumate (known simply as "Nana" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren), went to be with her Lord on April 25, 2012. She joined her late husbands, Horace, Kenneth and great-granddaughter, Alexandra on a sunny, peaceful spring Texas day. Carolyn was 83 years of age. Funeral services will be 10AM, Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ken Lane officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 7-8:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. She was born March 12, 1929 in Ennis, Texas to Charley and Ethel Magenat Moore. At the age of 4, the family moved to Mexia. Carolyn was a proud, lifelong resident of Mexia, spending the majority of her life in and around the city she loved. She graduated from Mexia High School in 1946, married Horace Shamblin on May 18, 1946 and began her lifelong passion as a mother and homemaker. She and Horace were blessed with two daughters, Carol Ann and Leah Beth. When not busy with the responsibilities of raising children and running the household, Carolyn enjoyed reading, sewing, baking (especially pies and fudge), and making floral arrangements. Carolyn will be remembered by her smile and loving ways. Her love for God, family and friends was evident in her life.
