Cloyce Tyner Obituary

Cloyce Tyner, 83, passed away March 22, 2016 at his home in Mexia. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Cloyce was born in Wortham, Texas on February 5, 1933 to Sidney Monroe and Lois Rogers Tyner. He grew up in Ennis and was a graduate of Ennis High School. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Cloyce married the love of his life, Peggy Elizabeth Reid in Durant, Oklahoma on September 3, 1955. In 1972, Cloyce resigned his job with the City of Dallas and they moved to Mexia. He went to work as Mexia’s City Secretary/Tax Assessor Collector and, on several occasions, served as interim City Manager; he retired after 22 years of service. Cloyce was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and cards, maintaining his yard and gardening. Having served as a member of the James Ladd Burgess Lodge #1305 and present member of the Mexia Springfield Masonic Lodge #74, in 2009, Cloyce was awarded his 50 year service pin. Cloyce was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Mexia. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Tyner; and sister, Alene Hathcock. Cloyce is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Peggy; daughter, Monica Gail Tyner Nichols of Spring; brother, Derrell Tyner of Ennis; special friend, Marty Byers; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Doug Jones, Louie Masters, Dennis Knearem, Boomer Johnson, Ben Tyner and Greg Tyner.
