David Allen Obituary

David Allen joined his Heavenly Father on July 27, 2016, at the age of 64, after fighting cancer for the last 18 months. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones at the time of his departure. He married his wife and soulmate of 48 years, Bertha Barnes Allen on August 2, 1968. David leaves behind his wife, Bertha Allen; his son, Dwayne David and wife, Charlene Allen; grandchildren, Timothy David, Trinity Grace, Chayne Marie and Christopher Mason of Cypress, Texas; his son, Brandon Neal and wife, Keri Allen; grandchildren Cole Riley, Taylor Ryanne, Bradley Mitchell Bailey and Benjamin Lucas Bailey of Groesbeck, Texas. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Glenda Boswell, a brother-in-law Roy Allen Barnes and a host family and friends. David was born in Dallas, Texas on July 29, 1951. He attended Jacksonville High School. After having worked at several automotive dealerships, he became self-employed, in 1978, establishing and operating D & D Automotive in Mexia, Texas for over 38 years. David loved music and used his musical gift to minister to others. David would begin and end his day at the keys of his piano praising and worshipping his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through music. He was always willing to share his music with local communities and organizations. David had a passion for cars which included drag-racing, rebuilding classic cars, and participating in car shows. He loved spending time with his family and friends at the race track where he loved to compete and was always looking for the win light in his lane, especially when one of his boys was in the other lane. David was a jokester and had a quick wit keeping the mood lively. Whether he was looking for a grandkid to pick at or spending his mornings with the guys of the Breakfast Crew at the shop, David had to have fun. He served as a Deacon of First Baptist Church Mexia, where he enjoyed being a part of music ministry, serving as a solo pianist, singing in the First Baptist Church Mexia Choir, Easter Pageant cast member, and various roles in the Dinner Theatre – including the chorale. He particularly enjoyed his Sunday School class - Walt’s Sunday School class, of which he was a faithful member. In addition, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mexia Baptist Men Group. Thursday mornings, you would find David attending and/or cooking for the weekly Men’s Prayer Breakfast. David loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, whether it be at church, work, or the racetrack. He loved a lively night of 42 playing with his kids. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #74 and a Scottish Rite member. David is preceded in death by his parents; Luchies and Elvie Otts Allen and several special Aunts and Uncles. The visitation will be held at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia, Texas on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 5 – 7 pm.
