Delma Park Obituary

Delma Park, 85, passed away, May 10, 2016, in Waco, Texas at the Providence Hospice Place, surrounded by her family. She had resided at her home in Mexia, Texas prior to hospitalization. Family visitation will be Saturday, May 14, at 10 am at First United Methodist Church, Mexia. The funeral service will follow at 11 am at the church with interment in the Mexia Cemetery. Rev. Danny Niedecken will preside. Pallbearers will be George Tidwell, James Dawley, Bob Crider, Terry Don Shivers, Kyle Hancock and Kyler Hancock. Men of the Upper Room Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Delma was born on September 23, 1930, in Sulphur Bluff, Texas, to Vera and Alton Posey. On July 3, 1948, she married Ray Park, the love of her life, and they resided in Wichita Falls for 28 years before moving to Lufkin, Texas in 1976. In 1988, Ray and Delma moved to Mexia and called Mexia their home. Delma lovingly cared for Ray during his time of illness with Alzheimer’s from 1995 until his death on May 29, 2001. Delma also worked at the First Methodist Preschool at the First United Methodist Church for five years. Ms. Delma took pride and ownership in “her” kitchen and made snack and lunch experiences loving for everyone. Mr. Ray joined her to work at the Preschool in 1993 doing fix it jobs and spreading his “fantastic” spirit to all. Mr. Ray and Ms. Delma arrived at Preschool at 6:30 am each morning to get the heat or air started and the lights on, making sure everything and everyone was ready to greet the children at opening time. Preschool became home away from home for them and provided a safe and secure sanctuary through all life’s experiences. They were both huge supporters of the Preschool. Delma was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Mexia, and was a member of the Upper Room Sunday School class. She enjoyed games with the Adult Fellowship Group and the Birthday Club each month. Her interests included plants, bridge, cooking, and family times. In her younger days she and Ray enjoyed square dancing and traveling. Delma loved cats and shared her cat stories with anyone who would listen. She is survived by her most recent cat companion, Blackie. Delma is survived by her brother, Lowell Posey and wife, Jay of Lake Mexia and preceded in death by her brother, Billy Posey and her parents, Alton and Vera Posey all of Wichita Falls. She is also survived by daughter, Sherry Rae Miller and spouse, Michael of Mexia; son, Larry Wayne Park and spouse, Sandy of Wichita Falls; Grandchildren, Shae Owens and spouse, Al of Hillsboro, Sara Doege of Wortham, Amy Propp and spouse, Rob of Wichita Falls, and Andy Park of Fort Worth. She had eight great grandchildren: Graceyn and Reed Owens of Hillsboro, Dylan and Drew Doege of Wortham, Aiden and Beckett Propp of Wichita Falls, and Addisyn and Dawson Park of Fort Worth. Memorials may be made to First Methodist Preschool, First United Methodist Church, Mexia, Texas.
