Donald Fred Johanson, 78, of Mexia passed away July 8, 2012 in Groesbeck, Texas. Funeral services will be 10AM, Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Mr. Jan Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Don was born July 14, 1933 in Delia, Texas to Fred and Hazel Brandon Johanson. He was a rancher and retired Director of Cen-Tex Workshop. He married Robbie Lou Shipp on February 10, 1951 in Mexia. Don proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years during the Korean War. He loved spending time with his family. He also, thoroughly enjoyed ranching and took pride in his land and cows. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Riley Welan. Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Robbie; daughter, Jennifer Welan of Ft. Worth, TX; son, Chris Johanson and wife, Kay-Kay of Pipe Creek, TX; grandchildren, Ethan Welan of Seattle, WA; Claire and Madeline Johanson of Pipe Creek, TX; and sister, Diana Downey of Coolidge, TX. Pallbearers will be Eddy Plummer, Johnny Amick, Todd Amick, Kent Yelverton, Jerry Don Chilcoat and Roy Downey. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Jackson and Randall Bryan.
