Doris Sullivan Ward of Mexia, Texas went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 after a brief illness at Parkview Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be 2PM, Sunday, January 20th at the First Baptist Church with Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Doris was born January 28, 1926 in Zions Rest, Texas to William Edward and Mosie Ella Boyte Sullivan. Doris, lovingly known by many as “Nanny”, not only was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother but also enjoyed a long career in the retail fashion industry. After working as a buyer for Karner-Phillips of Mexia, she later managed K. Wolens stores in Mexia, Killeen, and Hillsboro. From 1982 to 2003, Nanny managed W & W Family Rentals. From 2003, until she reluctantly retired in 2011, she completed her long career at Farm House Furnishings. Nanny enjoyed this last year at home on her farm. Her favorite memories were spent with family, friends, country/western and ballroom dancing, and riding in the pasture to check on her cows. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jason Lytle Ward; five brothers and six sisters. Doris is survived by two sons, Billy Roy Pate and wife, Olivia of Atlanta, GA and John L. Ward and wife, Amy of Mexia, TX; two daughters, Sandra Langston and husband, Michael of Houston, TX and Debra Ward Newberry of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Neyland and husband, Wade, James Ward and wife, Sara, Spencer Thomas, Heather McNallie and husband, Rhett, Scott Langston, Adam Langston, Brandi Madison, Millie Hill and husband, Dwayne and Amy Newberry; Great-grandchildren, Lacy, Janie & Pate Neyland, Cameryn Ward, Dalton Masters, Mae & Mac McNallie, Weston & Mia Madison, and Hunter Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews, Justin & Brick Sullivan and Dave Klosterman. Nanny had a tremendous devotion and love for her family and friends and will be missed greatly!
