Funeral services for Mrs. Ernestine Burke, 83 of Mexia will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006 in Blair - Stubbs Chapel, Mexia with interment following in Prairie Hill Cemetery. Rev. Fred Sain, pastor of Prairie Hill Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation with the family will be 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home. Mrs. Burke was born March 21, 1923 in Hubbard to Thomas Payne and Amy (Vickery) Findley. She retired as ward charge for Mexia State School after working there for 34 years. She was married to Elvin T. Burke on January 30, 1945 and was preceded in d eath by him in 1994. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors are a daughter and son in law: Elaine and Ronnie Holland of Mexia; Stepson, Jerry D. Burke and wife, Barbara of Katy; Sister and brother in law: Frances and Glenn Burke of Mart; brother and sister in law, Thomas Payne Findley, Jr. and wife, Mary of Prairie Hill; sister in law: Mary Beth Burke of Prairie Hill; Brother-in-law, Troy Burke of Prairie Hill Grandchildren: Stephanie Aldrete and Shannon Murphy, both of Wichita Falls; Great grandson, Dylan Murphy; step-granddaughter, Ronda Van Meter and husband, Vernon of Mexia, step-grandchildren, Robert, Jessica and Michael, a number of nieces and nephews and a great niece, Summer Elmore. Pallbearers will be Stell Waldrop, Jr., Marion (Butch) Nichols, Robert Murphey, Ron Haines, Chet Seelinger and Chester Seelinger.
