James Miller

James Ray Miller, 74, of Mexia passed away July 4, 2013 at his home at Lake Mexia. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia with Rev. Rick Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. James was born November 18, 1938 in Richland, Texas to Reburn Craig and Vivian Lenoa Faulkner Miller. He was a graduate of Mexia High School. He married the love of his life, Brenda Gail Jones on July 2, 1963 in Groesbeck, Texas. They just celebrated 50 years of love together. Husband, father, grandfather, James loved his family. He was known as Bee Paw to those grandchildren he enjoyed spoiling. He was the perfect example of love, strength and hard work – “Our Oak”. He worked for Safeway Grocery, the majority of his life, and retired from the grocery retail business. He always instilled hard work in others and lead by example. James could usually be found somewhere on the lake; he loved fishing and teaching others to fish. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. James, also, proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Norma Zane Miller. James is survived by his wife, Brenda Miller of Mexia; daughters, Traci Woodward and husband, Johnny of Waco and Dana Red Elk of Robinson; son, David Craig Miller and wife, Mariann of Daphne, Alabama; grandchildren, Billy Woodward, Justin Woodward, Brandon Red Elk, Nathan Red Elk, Samuel Craig Miller, Madeleine Miller and Isabella Miller; great-grandson, Dillen Woodward; sister, Peggy Dunovan of Athens; mother-in-law, Marjorie Jones of Groesbeck; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Bobby Jack Liles, Jerry Don Chilcoat, Wayne Loven, Walter Van De Weghe, Gail Cate and Ron Williams.
