James Ray Pope, 71, of Mexia passed away January 18, 2013 in Mexia. Funeral services will be 3PM, Monday, January 21, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. James was born July 24, 1941 in Teague, Texas to J. D. and Clara Hail Pope. He was a retired welder. After retiring, he opened R. J.’s Restaurant and operated it for a number of years. James loved raising and tending to his game chickens. He was friendly and outgoing; enjoyed being around people. He was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Pope and mother, Clara Parker. James is survived by his wife, Leticia Pope of Mexia; son, Emilio Pope; step-children, Ingrid Mandragon, Alessia Lean, Mara Gonzalez, Ronnie Smith and Rhonda Riggs, who he loved and cherished as his own; sister, Jo Nita Cannon of Teague; niece Donna Hudson; nephews, Rickey Cannon and Buddy Cannon both of Teague; Uncle, Dale Pope of Teague; aunt, Mildred McClain of Eagle Lake, TX; cousins, John Christian, Earlene Robertson, Alleen Davenport, Debbie Carter, Howard Pope, Tommy Pope, Glenda Rieber, Helen Smith, Debbie Jones, Edna Nutt, Dennis McClain, Pat McClain and Dana Pagel.
