Jerry Cotton

Jerry Allen Cotton was born to Horace and Edna Faye Cotton on January 5, 1946 in Waco, Texas. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Palestine Regional Hospital. He grew up in the Frosa community and attended Prairie Hill School and graduated from Groesbeck High School. God called him to the Ministry at the age of 18. He graduated from Baylor University with a BA in Religion. He began his ministry as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. He went on to pastor Oletha Baptist Church, Jewett Baptist Church, Judson Baptist Church and was pastor of Cayuga Baptist Church for the past 38 years when he went to be with the Lord. He married Janet Ruth Cundieff on August 11, 1973 in Mexia, Texas. They resided in Jewett and moved to Cayuga in 1974. Jerry and Janet had 2 sons, Scott and Brent. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a love for animals as a small child and it continued throughout his life especially with horses, cattle and two favorite “girls”, Taco and Squirt. Jerry worked at TDCJID in Palestine for 27 years and retired in 2012. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his sons, Scott Cotton and wife, Felicia of Cayuga, and Brent Cotton of Cayuga; brothers, P.W. Cotton and wife, Sherry of Palestine, Jimmy Cotton and wife, Karen of Robinson; cherished aunt, Jean Gatlin of Mexia five grandchildren – Justice Cotton, Jayci Cotton, Isabelle Mills, Alexandra Matthews, and Wyatt Cotton. Many loving nieces, nephews, and other family who will miss him greatly. Funeral services will be 10 AM, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia with Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Mexia City Cemetery. Terry Cotton, Jim Cotton, Chet Seelinger, Chester Seelinger, Gary Cotton and Justice Cotton will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Cayuga Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 PM, Monday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Jerry’s memory to Cayuga Baptist Church, PO Box 398, Cayuga, TX 75832.
