John Lusk

John Hamilton Lusk of North Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 7, 1942 to John and Edith Lusk in the Butler Community in Freestone County, TX. He graduated in 1961 from University High School in Waco, TX and went straight into the Navy after graduation. While in the Navy, he received an Associate’s Degree in Political Science. John served aboard the USS Hornet that picked up the Apollo 11 astronauts in 1969. He retired from the Navy in 1981 as a Senior Chief after 20 years of service. He worked as a Marine Surveyor for the federal government for 18 years. He was a certified welding inspector. He also worked for American Bureau of Shipping in New Orleans, LA for three years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; son, John Christopher Lusk; and brother, Charles Lusk. John is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Helen of North Las Vegas; son, Paul David (Tracy) Lusk of Corpus Christi; granddaughter, Catherine Lusk of California; grandson, Nicholas Lusk of Corpus Christi; sisters, Charlotte Sawyer of Mexia, Joyce (Harold) Knecht of Hamilton, OH, Lynn (Paul) Smith of Waco and Rosemarie (Bill) Groth of Mexia; brother, Rodger Lusk of Mexia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10AM, Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia with Father Benji officiating. Interment will be at Mayes Cemetery in the Butler Community. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Friday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia. Pallbearers will be John Knecht, Ray Knight, Alex Knight, Paul Smith, Bill Groth and Wesley Groth.
