John Neece

John Prendergast Neece, III, passed away April 1, 2015. He was born on January 25, 1944 in Del Rio, TX to Ella Mae and John P. Neece, Jr. He grew up and graduated from high school in Mexia, TX. He was a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in Computer Science. He served in the U.S. Army as a tank commander in Germany and a Cobra helicopter pilot during Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star, the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a Purple Heart. After leaving the Army, he worked as a tax assessor/collector for several years in Willis and Bryan, TX. He was later a software engineer with the Internal Revenue Service and retired to Southaven, MS. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with friends to many parts of the United States. He was an avid gun enthusiast and belonged to several local gun clubs. He is survived by his sister, Sunny Pawlik, of Kerrville, TX; son, John P. Neece IV, of Rockford, IL; daughter, Luci Smith, of Round Rock, TX; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 p.m. to be followed by memorial services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, April 25 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home, 605 South McKinney, Mexia, TX 76667, 254-562-2131. Rev. Danny Niedecken will officiate.
