Julius Caesar “J.C.” Hawkins, III, 82, of Mexia, passed away February 3, 2014 in Mexia. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 in the Mexia Cemetery with Rev. Danny Niedecken officiating. J. C. was born May 28, 1931 in Freeman, Missouri to J. C. Hawkins, Jr. and Erma Lorena Rowe Hawkins. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On June 28, 1958, J. C. married Betty Sue Flynt in Mexia, Texas. He worked for Lone Star Gas for several years and later, Southwestern Electric Service Company where he retired after many years of service. J. C. enjoyed spending time with his family; he was especially proud of his grandchildren. His hobbies consisted of hunting, fishing and visiting with people; friends at the coffee shop or just around town. He was preceded in death by his parents. J. C. is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Hawkins of Mexia; two daughters, Becky Brady and husband, Harlon of Mexia and Carla Wilkins and husband, Michael of Mexia; three grandchildren, Brittany Kay Brady, Hilary Anne Brady and John Colton Brady; and sister, Erma Lea Billings of La Plata Mo.
