Lewis Henry Blunt of Mexia, Texas, died July 23, 2011, in Dallas, Texas. He was born in Mexia, Texas, April 12, 1924, to Lewis Henry and Fannie Belle Park Blunt. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Mildred Parker, Lewise Swingler, and Charlotte Martin. He attended Texas A&M University where his studies were interrupted by World War II. He served the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the Field Artillery as a Forward Observer and was honored with the Purple Heart Award for his combat service in Germany. He returned from the war and completed his accounting degree. He married Jean Harper in 1947 and pursued a profession in accounting in Houston, Texas. The hallmark of his career was serving Texaco for 35 years, where he held the title General Accounting Manager (Producing) of Texaco for the United States and Canada. He and Jean were a model of a devoted, life-long marriage. Lew was both intelligent and wise, and his children and grandchildren continually sought his advice and counsel. His character, integrity and perseverance were clearly modeled for his family and it was important to him to pass along those values. He was known for his kindness, generosity and keen sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean; sister Elizabeth Withrow; daughters Ann Blunt Holford and her husband Neal; Lynn Blunt Swygert and her husband Thomas; Ellen Blunt McCrary and her husband John; He was known as "Bud" to his grandchildren, Will Holford and wife, Kim, Caroline Revard and husband, Duke and Stephanie Holford; Kathryn Dempsey and husband, Todd, Kristina Swygert and Jonathan Swygert; Anna McCrary, Ben McCrary, and Katherine McCrary and great grandchildren Lily, Evie, & Isla Revard, and Hudson Holford. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Lew was most content when surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A service in his honor will be held Wednesday, July 27th at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Canton Street, Mexia, Texas with Rev. Kory Koch officiating. Interment will follow in the Wortham Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John McCrary, Ben McCrary, Tom Swygert, Jonathan Swygert, Neal Holford, Will Holford, Todd Dempsey and Duke Revard. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Mexia Men's Prayer Breakfast.
