Mary Sue Hitt, 79, of Mexia, passed away February 14, 2015 in Alvin, Texas. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Glenn McGuire officiating. Interment will follow in the Point Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Sue was born July 24, 1935, in the Mexia area, to J. T. Fife and Hazie Ida Lane Fife. She lived in Mexia most of her life. Sue graduated from Mexia High School in 1952, 5th in her class, 1st of the girls, and earned a scholarship from Mary Hardin Baylor. She retired from Brown Oil & Gas Company after 30 years of service as office manager. Sue married, the love of her life, Danny Eugene Hitt on September 5, 1953 in Huntsville, Texas. She and Danny were blessed with four daughters, Karel, Connie, Laurie and Kathryn. Sue was a very active in the Mexia community. As a longtime member of Mexia BPW, she held many offices and was a recipient of the Woman of The Year award. She faithfully served in many capacities as a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Sue was loved by all who knew her; she had an outgoing personality and treated everyone with kindness and respect. She lived her life for God and her family. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by all her family and the opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and the greats. She enjoyed working in her yard planting flowers of all kinds. Sue’s family will remember her as being a great cook and for leaving them a wonderful legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Danny Hitt; granddaughter, Amanda Gayle Ayers. Sue is survived by her four daughters, Karel Lynn Ayers and husband, Zack of Alvin, Connie Lou Johnson and husband, Paul of Alvin, Laurie Lane Chaney and husband, Mark of Mexia and Kathryn Betts Rogers and husband, Jimmy of Mexia; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Maurice “Bubba” Fife and wife, Judy of Katy. Pallbearers will be Zack Ayers, Paul Johnson, Mark Chaney, Craig Chaney, Matthew Chaney and Jimmy Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Alden Garber, Bubba Garber, Jimmy Van Winkle, Dick Flatt, Joe Cannon and Dylan Martinez.
