Raymond Peters

Raymond Earl Peters, 83, of Buffalo, Texas, passed away December 20, 2017 in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Dr. Jeff Hatton officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. David Smiley, Kenneth Smiley, Stephen Smiley, William Baker, Keith Carter and Stephen Decker will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Wednesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Raymond was born December 26, 1933 in Mexia, Texas to Elmer and Grace Crook Peters. After graduating from Mexia High School, he furthered his education receiving a degree from North Texas University. Raymond, also, proudly served is country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Raymond retired from TU Electric’s Big Brown Generating Plant, after 21 years of service as a mechanic. Retirement just allowed him to devote more time to raise cattle. He loved raising Hereford cattle and belonging to their association; he enjoyed country living. Raymond was outgoing, enjoyed interacting with people and made friends easily. He was one that would do anything he could to help family, friends or most anyone. He cherished his family and enjoyed nothing more than having the opportunity to spoil his grandchildren. He was a member of the Christian Church in Mexia and a member of the IOOF Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Grace Peters; brother, John Peters; sister, Mary Ann Peters; and step-sons, Chad and Kim Carter. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Baker and husband, Kevin of Hillsboro; grandchildren, William Baker and Belva Grace Baker both of Hillsboro and Keith Carter of Jewett; sister, Ruth Pritchett of Bristol, TX; niece, Cindy Dewey of Wappingers Falls, NY; nephews, Donald Peters of Phoenix, AZ, Stephen Smiley of San Leon, TX, Kenneth Smiley of Plano and David Smiley of Mexia.
