Susan Burleson

Susan R. Burleson, 83 of Groesbeck, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at LaSalle Cemetery with Chaplain Suzanne Smith officiating. Susan Rains Burleson was born May 7, 1924 in Lexington, Georgia to Henrietta Faust Rains and Marcus Lafette Rains, Sr. She was baptized at 12 years old at Bethany Baptist Church in Lexington, Ga. Susan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. She was married to Major Derwood "Ed" Burleson for 48 years. She is survived by her loving husband, Ed, and daughters, Casanda M. Burleson and Dana Burleson Renschler; daughter-in-law, Debby Burleson; and son-in-law, Richie Renschler; all of Waco; grandchildren, 1st Lt. Clint Edward Burleson and wife, Tiffany, of Copperas Cove, Jasa Jordan of Magnolia, Skyler Renschler of Waco, and Kriste Bogans of Oceanside, California; two siblings, Mildred Hoekstra and Mark Rains; and great grandchildren, Chandler, Brody and Reagan Ann Burleson of Copperas Cove. She was preceded in death by her son, Bryant Edward Burleson and by brothers, Ben, Edward, Tom and Johnny Rains and sister, Carolyn Rains. . Susan was a graduate of Meson Academy High School in Lexington, Ga.: Taccoa Falls Business School in Taccoa, GA., and Georgia Baptist Nursing School She served as a Captain in the U.S. Army as a registered nurse. She also worked as an industrial nurse at National Automotive Parts Association in Atlanta, Ga. She served as a nurse from 1945 - 1959. She married Ed in Marlin, Texas on May 7, 1959. She was a member of the American Nursing Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Life Member of Reserve Officers' Association. Special thanks to Hospice R. N. Michelle Lloyd.
