Sylvia Johnson

Sylvia Juanita Johnson entered into her heavenly home, from Tyler, Texas, on May 12, 2017 at the age of 87. A celebration of her life will be 2 PM, Monday, May 15, 2017 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Bill Wright, Jr. and Rev. Jeff Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Justin Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Brian Wallace, Bradley Wallace, Garrett Thibodeaux and Logan Durrett will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1PM on Monday at Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Sylvia was born September 22, 1929 in Mexia, Texas to James H. and Maggie Inez Griffin Ingram. Mexia has been her home for most of her life. She married the love of her life, George W. Johnson, on February 9, 1945 and they were blessed with four children, George, Jr. “Buddy”, David, Kathy and Jenny. She and George owned and operated the Mexia Steam Laundry for many years. Sylvia, later, retired from the Mexia State School laundry department. However, she didn’t remain retired long; she worked as a Site Manager for Mexia, Teague and Coolidge Senior Citizens. Sylvia’s love for the Lord, family and friends was exemplified in the way she lived her life. She was proud of her family and enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by them, especially, during the holidays. She loved to cook. Her family, as well as many others, will testify that she was an excellent cook. German chocolate cake, chocolate and coconut pies and cookies were probably her specialties, although it is hard to name just a few. She also enjoyed playing 88 (dominoes) and dancing. She was a longtime active member of Northside Baptist Church; she loved her church, church family and socials. Sylvia was blessed with fairly good health and an unbelievably great mind for her entire life. She remembered everyone’s birthday. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother; there was nothing more precious than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years, George Johnson; brothers, Hubert and Doc Ingram; sisters, Anna Faulkner and Rose Black. Sylvia is survived by her children and families: son, George W. “Buddy” Johnson and wife, Sandy; son, David Johnson and wife, Sandy and children, Christopher and Justin Johnson, Kayli Smotherman, Darby Green, Chris, Ashton, Stephanie, Jasmine, Meshia, Kobe, Katie and Konor McNeil; daughter, Kathy Bishop and husband, Wayne and children, Melanie Thibodeaux and sons, Garrett and Gabe, Skye Durrett and husband, Brent and sons, Keston, Logan and Tyler; daughter, Jenny Wallace and husband, Burt and children, Kristi Braley and husband, Dawson and children, Kiersten and Kasey, Lindsey Findley and children, Ethan and Katherine, Brian Wallace and wife, Amber and daughter to arrive in August, Leilani and Bradley Wallace and wife, Aeron and son, Brock; and sister, Mary Edwards. Memorials may be made to the Northside Baptist Church, 910 N. Kaufman, Mexia, Tx. 76667.
