Virgil Lee "V.L." Campbell, 79, of Mexia passed away July 13, 2011 in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be 10AM, Friday, July 15, 2011 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Brother James Rincker and Brother Harvey Hallmark officiating. Interment will follow in the Wortham Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 PM, Thursday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. V.L. was born September 9, 1931 in Navarro County to Virgil Lee and Evelyn (Spruiel) Campbell. He retired from Stephens Ready Mix after 13 years as a loader. V.L. married Joan Caldwell on March 6, 1961. His hobbies were gardening and fishing. He enjoyed family gatherings and going to church. His love for the Lord and his family was evident in his life. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren; and a brother, Wesley Campbell. V.L. is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan of Mexia; children, Judy Ramirez of Waco, Shirley Lyons of Mexia and Charles "Bubba" Walpole of Groesbeck; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eugene Campbell of Mexia. Pallbearers will be Jory Walpole, Roger Lyons, Jr., Donal Douglas, Jimmy Owens, Sr., Jimmy Owens, Jr. and Vincent Ramirez. Charles Caldwell, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearer.
