Virgil Lowrie Obituary

Virgil Arlen Lowrie, Attorney at Law, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Texas Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. He passed away surrounded by his family. Virgil was born in Prairie Hill Texas on May 12, 1936 to Gertrude Lee (Forrester) Lowrie and Virgil Austin Lowrie. As the youngest of three children, Virgil grew up in a small farmhouse and graduated from Prairie Hill High School. He graduated from Baylor University with a law degree which lead to a lifelong passion of representing clients to the best of his ability. After graduating from Baylor, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and attended basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. He retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Colonel. He retired from the State of Texas as a Claims Attorney and went into private practice in Denton. He worked up until several weeks before his death. He is survived by his wife Minnie Ismond; two sons, Forrester Lee Lowrie and wife, Tammy of Denton, and Virgil Austin Lowrie and wife Debbie Mills of Highland Village. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Victoria Lowrie of Galveston, Elizabeth Lowrie of Plano and Matthew Lowrie of Denton. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, brother – Denmore Lowrie and sister – Mildred Hensley. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Prairie Hill Baptist Church, 5152 FM 339 N, Prairie Hill, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fred Sain officiating. Interment will be at Prairie Hill Cemetery. David Lowrie, Alan Lowrie, Lloyd Hensley, Floyd Hensley, Aaron Hensley and Jason Smith will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to thank his doctors Dr. Mark Ginnings and Dr. Michael Spivey. He was blessed by the caring and compassionate staff of doctors and nurses at Texas Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. A special thank you to Karen Hodges, his nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, for being such a blessing to not only Virgil, but to the family during his final hours.
