Virginia Jenkins Bounds Obituary

Virginia Jenkins Bounds, 101, was received into heaven from her home, in Tehuacana, on the morning of October 13, 2015. She was born in Eldorado City, Texas on June 3, 1914 to Sparks B. and Louise Coleman Jenkins. They lived in Hubbard, Marshall and Mexia. In 1935, Virginia married James Thomas “J.T.” Bounds. They lived in Lockhart, Texas before returning to Tehuacana, where they made their home for the remainder of their lives. J.T. was a farmer and rancher until his death in 1990. Virginia assisted him by keeping his books and feeding his helpers delicious meals. She worked for the City of Tehuacana, as secretary and also served as secretary of the Tehuacana United Methodist Church where she was a longtime active member; was a member of the D.A.R. and served as a faithfully active member of the Rotary Club of Mexia from 1990 until December 2013. Virginia was blessed with a long active life. She faithfully served the Lord, cherished her family and friends and served the community in which she lived. She was the recipient of many awards. The Rotary Club presented Virginia with the Service Above Self Award on her 90th birthday, Outstanding Older Adult Award (twice) and Paul Harris Fellow Award times three. The Westminster College Ex-Students Association presented her with an Award of Appreciation for her steadfast devotion as Secretary-Treasurer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, J.T.; daughter, Ann Chilcoat; son, Tom Bounds; granddaughter, Missy Bounds; and son-in-law, Bill Parker. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Beth Parker; son-in-law, Jerry Chilcoat; grandchildren, Mark Chilcoat and wife, Judy, Dave Chilcoat and wife, Karen, Trey Bounds, Eric and Chris Parker; great-grandchildren, Annie Dean and husband, Dustin, Blake Chilcoat and wife, Jessica, Sarah, Ryan and Sydney Chilcoat, Coleton, Kallie and Haley Brown and Lila and Thomas Parker; great-great-grandchildren, Hudson and Charli Dean; niece, Barbara Jacobs; very special friend, Shelia Higgins; cousin, Joe Jenkins and wife, Jan; and a host of nieces and nephews and numerous friends. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2014 in the Tehuacana Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m., at the Tehuacana United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Watson and Rev. Brad Brittain officiating. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Virginia’s family would like to express special thanks to the wonderful staff of Providence Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tehuacana United Methodist Church.
