William "Bill" Forrest Sandlin passed away May 13, 2013 in Ogden, Utah, where he lived contentedly for 30+ years. Graveside services will be 1PM, Sunday, May 19, 2013 in the Mexia Cemetery. He was born November 2, 1944 in Velasco, Texas and spent his youth in Jones Creek, Texas. Upon graduation from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas, Bill soon began his service to our country as a paratrooper during the Vietnam War. He was a Specialist E-5 of the distinguished Army 101 Airborne Division. During his service, Bill was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroism and the first Oak Leaf Cluster. Upon his return from military service, Bill attended the University of Houston and then enjoyed a successful career as a computer technician with the US Government from which he retired. Bill loved the peace and solitude of the Utah Mountains, his time cross-country skiing, his extended trips back to Texas to visit family, and in recent years, the care and attention he provided to his beloved dog, Maddie. His gentle manner and his kind, peaceful disposition will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Strait Sandlin and Minnie Kate Bagley Sandlin of Jones Creek, Texas. Bill is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Weisinger and Mae Dale Sandlin Sigrist and husband, CJ Sigrist of Mexia; nieces and nephews: Jesse Weisinger of Aledo, Texas, Steve Sigrist and wife Katherine of Plano, Rebecca Sigrist of Dallas, and Beth Sigrist Hale and husband Corey of Fairfield. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews: Robert, Jack and Claire Sigrist, Peyton, Avery and Audrey Archibald.
