Larry Vasbinder Obituary

Larry Vasbinder, loving husband, father and grandfather, 74, of Yorktown, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018. He was born March 19, 1943, in San Antonio to the late John and Irene Nieman Vasbinder.


Larry was a lifelong rancher, farmer and avid hunter. In 1977 he was named the Star Young Farmer in the State of Texas. He spent many years serving the local community and was a founder of the Western Dewitt Wildlife Management Association. He also served for over 30 years on the board of the DeWitt County Soil and Water Conservation and the DeWitt County Row Crops Committee. He was also well known for producing DeWitt county’s finest watermelons and sweet corn.


Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter Vasbinder and Jim Vasbinder (Pat); and brother-in-law, Dennis Haley.


He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Algerine Vasbinder; son, Larry Charles Vasbinder Jr (Holly); granddaughters, Madison Vasbinder and Haley Vasbinder; brothers, Earl Vasbinder, John Vasbinder (Jamina), and William Vasbinder (Cindy); sisters, Fayerene Smith (Charles Ed), Carolyn Haley, and Wanda Kosub (Steven); sister-in-law, Rosie Vasbinder; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.


Visitation will be 5-8pm, Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Finch Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2pm, Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Finch Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim Muehlbrad officiating. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Earl Vasbinder, John Vasbinder, William Vasbinder, Larry Charles Vasbinder, Charles Ed Smith, and Wade Bolting. Honorary pallbearer will be Sherwood Williams.
