Alene Key

Alene Gaines Key Robert Lee, TX Alene Gaines Key, 89, passed from her earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2016 quickly and peacefully. Alene was born on April 29, 1927 in Hylton, Texas to Jess and Beulah King Gaines. She was the fourth daughter and had two younger brothers. She grew up in Shep, Bronte and San Angelo. She quit school as a teenager to take care of her mother, who was dying from cancer. Alene went on to graduate from Jolley Beauty School in San Angelo and became a hairdresser. She then moved to Robert Lee to work at Olene’s Beauty Shop. Once there, she met and married David Key on September 6, 1947. They were blessed with a son, Joe David and a daughter, DeeAnna. Alene then became a homemaker taking care of her family and attending all her children's activities. She later enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren, Jason and Jessica's, activities as well. She was a long-time member of Robert Lee Baptist Church and served in different areas from the nursery and Vacation Bible School to keeping records in Adult II Sunday School. She was also faithful volunteer to the Robert Lee Care Center Thrift Shop. She was an artist and loved to paint. She got great joy, last year when she and David were downsizing, by giving her paintings away to dear friends and family. She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, David; son, Joe David and wife Teri; daughter, DeeAnna Harmon and husband Joe; grandson, Jason Key and fiancé, Kate Zora; granddaughter, Jessica Key Kolasa and husband Doren; and great-grandchildren, Jaren, McKinley and Creed Kolasa and Kye Scott Kolasa due to arrive later this month; brothers, Jess Gaines and wife Dorothy; sister-in-law, Rena; and many dear nieces and nephews. Alene was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Loucille Middleton, Annie Faye King, and Clara Belle Deese; and brother, Garland Gaines. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ayass and his staff for the wonderful care they have provided to Alene over the years; to the Robert Lee Care Center for their loving care and also to Dr. Vosburg, Dr. Nichols, Dr. Artnak, Dr. Flynn, PA Harper and all of the staff on five South at Shannon Medical Center for the wonderful care they have provided to her over the last ten days.
