Leon F. Bourn

POWNAL Leon F. “Ted” Bourn, 74, a resident of Route 346, North Pownal, died unexpectedly Friday evening, January 18, 2019 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Born in Bennington August 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Raymond Bourn and the former Ethel (DeBell) Bourn who survives. Ted received his early schooling in the Bennington and Shaftsbury schools and at North Bennington High School. A Vietnam War veteran, he served in the U.S. Army infantry during that time. Ted married Feruza Tashkhodjaev in Bennington on February 10, 2007. In earlier years Ted worked at the Sikorsky Helicopter plant in Stratford, CT. After returning to Bennington he worked as a carpenter and for past several years was a self-employed heating technician. Ted was a member of both American Legion Posts 90 in Pownal and 13 in Bennington. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Feruza Bourn of North Pownal; his mother, Ethel Bourn of Bennington; five children, Roy (Amelia) Mattison of North Pownal, Rodney (Lisa) Bourn of Hoosick Falls, NY, Joshua Bourn of Bennington, Elyor Tashkhodjaev of Thiland and Nargiza Tashkhodjaev of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Jeziah Chevalier and Rodrick Bourn; a sister, Jean (Lloyd) Allen of North Hebron, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services celebrating the life of Ted Bourn will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 12:00 noon. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in spring at the George Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Ted Bourn’s memory may be made to the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201 to help the family with funeral expenses.
