Doris Barup

Doris Mae McDowell Barup born February 18, 1924 heard the words spoken “Well done, thou good and faithful servant enter into your reward” on May 20, 2017. She was peacefully sleeping surrounded by her three beloved daughters and great grandson in the comfort of her home. During her final week on earth Doris would whisper to her family “You’ll be sad for a while, but be happy for me” and “I'm ready to see Jesus.” Her last words she spoke and wanted to be remembered were “Follow Jesus” and “Stay true to God.” Doris was the daughter of Samuel McDowell and Florence Barry. Doris was married to Clyde Barup her first sweetheart that she met during grade school. She was the mother of one son and three daughters, as well as grandmother to several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Doris is preceded in death by her lifelong husband Clyde Barup. Her precious son, Medford L. Barup, her great grandson, Jacob Barup, and grandson in-law, Gene Chesney. She was the last surviving close family member of her generation. Doris is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Captola and Orben Loucks, Carol and David Levandusky, Sally and Marvin Witham, as well as her immediate grandchildren Medford, Alan, Davey, Ricky, Cindy, Brian, Danny, Linda, Wendy, Charity, Matthew, Bradley, and Alexander. Doris had such a strong loving bond with her family that her youngest great granddaughter “Annika Doris” continues to carry part of her name. Doris dedicated herself to serving others. She taught of God’s love and the “call” to follow in Jesus footsteps. Her heart's desire was to tell as many people about Jesus as she was able. She birthed “Mountain View Tabernacle” as a Sunday School in her living room. Later Doris had the privilege of watching the building of Mountain View Tabernacle be established in Belvidere, Vermont. Her granddaughter Linda continues to carry on her legacy as pastor. She also pastored a church in Cayuta NY. She had been credentialed through Elim Fellowship and the Assemblies of God. In addition, Doris authored hundreds of poems and is noted to have published five books: Her personal testimony “Out of Darkness Into Light”, “Called of God”, “Walking with God”, “To Know Him, Jesus” and “Thoughts and Inspirations”. Doris will always be remembered for her heartfelt love and devotion to Jesus. She passionately spent her life telling others about the cross and the saving grace we have through Jesus. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched for generations to come. Doris expressed her wishes to have a celebration of her life with a small committal service at the graveside. She is being laid to rest next to her husband and son and mother. The committal service will be held on Thursday, May 25th at 1:00 pm at the cemetery in Belvidere, Vermont. The public is welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to Mountain View Tabernacle, PO Box 53, Waterville, Vermont 05492.
