Betty Chu Fairfax, Vermont Obituary

Betty Chu

Betty Chu, 55 of South Burlington passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2016 at Vermont Respite House in Williston following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Chenghai, China on February 28, 1961 daughter of Chuduan Yi and the late Yadong Li. Betty was a devoted mother with a loving and graceful smile. She was a humble woman but she led an extraordinary life. Betty grew up in a rural village in southeast China where she worked tirelessly as a farmer. In the mid 1980's, she and her late husband Eddie immigrated to Burlington Vermont in search of a better education for their son. Arriving with little more than the clothes on their backs, Betty and her husband overcame language and cultural barriers to forge a new life for their family. Over the course of three decades, and despite the loss of her husband in 2001, Betty's selfless devotion to her family along with her unwavering fortitude allowed her to shape three boys into the young men that she would become so proud of. Betty always put others ahead of herself. Her loving personality brought happiness to everyone that had the privilege of meeting her and it was no wonder that she was so well liked by all who knew her. In her free time Betty enjoyed gardening, knitting, going on nature walks, and playing with her grandson. Betty is survived by her 3 sons Shaun Chu his wife Aiyan and their son Aaron of Canton, MA, Kevin Chu and Kyle Chu both of Burlington, her mother Chuduan Yi, brothers Mufeng Li and Wuan Li, her sisters Muchun Li and Sabrina Zhu and her husband Jeffrey. She was also predeceased by her husband Eddie Chu in 2001. Per Betty’s wishes there will be no visiting hours held. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Burlington with Reverend Karen Mendes officiating. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in the family lot in Lakeview Cemetery.
