Betty McClellan

Betty J McClellan, 46, of Colchester, passed away May 18, 2013. She was born May 05, 1967, in Burlington, to Estelle Chamberlain and the late Douglas R McClellan Sr. Betty grew up in Richmond where she graduated from Mt. Mansfield Union High School and went on to study at Champlain College. In 1989 she gave birth to her only child, Mark McClellan. Betty viewed Mark as her greatest accomplishment and often doted on him to all who would listen. Betty will always be remembered for her soulful eyes, infectious smile and gentle demeanor. Even through her struggles on this journey she did her best to support her family and friends in times of need. She had a thoughtfulness about her that was unsurpassed and her knack for picking out the perfect card or gift could not be matched. She gave so freely of herself and asked for little in return. Betty never passed up a chance to spend time with her family and formed close bonds with many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephew. She specifically looked forward to the lunches that included her Great Aunt Barbara Bernard and family barbeques in the summer when extended family would gather around to spend time together. Betty was predeceased by her father, Douglas McClellan Sr.; sister Shari McClellan; maternal grandparents Fred and Elizabeth Chamberlain and paternal grandparents Artie and Doris McClellan. She is survived by her son, Mark A McClellan; mother Estelle (Chamberlain) McClellan; sister Stacey , partner Sean and their children Kyle, Alexis and Isabelle; brother Douglas R. McClellan Jr. and wife Kimberlee along with their children Emilee and Anya; and her dedicated partner and friend Claude Harrington. Betty is also survived by her beloved dog, Shatzie, who could always be found close by her side. Following private services a celebration of her life will take place May 28, 2013 at Bayside Park in Colchester from 6-8 pm in the pavilion. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Humane Society of Chittenden County online or by mail to 142 Kindness Court, So Burlington, VT 05403.
