Bruce Bishop Obituary

Bruce F. Bishop Essex Junction Bruce F. Bishop passed away peacefully on April 21, 2014 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston with his loving partner, Nellie Zansler, holding his hand. He was born in Big Rapids, Michigan on September 19, 1955 son of Geraldine Bishop and the late Richard R. Bishop. Bruce was in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1979. Deeply dedicated to his family, Bruce was a loving son who maintained and repaired the family log home, allowing his Mom to continue living independently. He learned his love of woodworking from his Dad, along with fishing and canoeing. During a long career in the Hotel Hospitality profession, as a Maintenance Technician, he became skilled in electrical, plumbing, gas, and mechanical repair as well as carpentry. Bruce worked at the Vermont Culinary Institute, The Inn at Essex, and most recently the Best Western and Windjammer Restaurant. He will be remembered for his loyalty, building skills, organization, and readiness to help others. His sense of dignity and perseverance inspired his family, friends and the health care professionals who knew him. Bruce is survived by his mother Geraldine Bishop of Jeffersonville; his loving sister and brothers: Linda Bishop-Burnet, of Jeffersonville; Richard R. Bishop, Jr. (Rick) of Swan Valley, Montana; Malcolm S. Bishop (Mal) and wife Kelly, of Helena, Montana; Brian D. Bishop and wife Betsy, of Montpelier; Ross A. Bishop and wife Bongi, of Tucson, Arizona; and their beloved families; his step-sons Aaron Zansler and wife Katiann, of Aliso Viejo, California and Brough Zansler, of Essex Junction, who he loved dearly and were wonderfully supportive during his remaining days. As Bruce said to Aaron during his daily calls from California, "I'm still here!" - as he will always be in our hearts and thoughts. Bruce was also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Rick's wife Dawn Bishop. There are no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions in Bruce's name may be made to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Rd., Williston, VT 05495.
