Charles Butler Obituary

CAMBRIDGE- Charles “Chuck” William Butler, 57, of Pleasant Valley, VT, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Fletcher Allen Health Care. Chuck was born September 26, 1956 in Burlington, VT, the son of Andrew and Clara Butler. He grew up on the Butlerholm Farm located in Pleasant Valley, VT, and spent his childhood working on the farm, playing sports, reading comic books, riding his bike, and playing “Cowboys and Indians” with his three siblings. Chuck was a caring, adventurous, hardworking, and determined man, who spent much of his adult life hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and sharing his love of sports with the 2 most important people in his life, his sons Benjamin and Andrew Butler. Chuck graduated from Lamoille Union High School in 1973, attended Vermont Technical College in 1974 on a scholarship for soccer, and remained a “Jack-of-all-trades” even into adulthood working as an automotive technician, sugar-maker, and carpenter for the majority of his life. Regardless of what profession he was pursuing at the time, Chuck’s work always included his love of the outdoors, as well as demonstrating his remarkable skill and precision of working with his hands. Towards the end of his life, Chuck spent the majority of his time devoted to his sons and his grandchildren; always sharing and encouraging his love for sports and adventure with those closest to him. He is survived by two children, Ben Butler and wife, Rebecca of Underhill, Andy Butler and wife, Jessica of Underhill, and four grandchildren, Christopher, Sara, Sienna, and Aidan. He also leaves his brother John Butler and wife, Carol, his sister Nancy Knapp, his sister Sally Baker and husband, David, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Clara Butler and brother-in-law John Knapp. Per Chuck’s wishes there will be no visiting hours held. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Catalyst Church on Raceway in Jericho. Immediately following the service there will be a gathering in the fellowship hall of the church. If attending the gathering please bring a dish to share.
