Constance Hanover Obituary

Constance W. “Connie” Hanover Jericho Constance “Connie” W. Hanover, 68 passed away at Fletcher Allen Health Care on Tuesday March 22, 2011 with her husband Jim by her side. Connie was born on August 10, 1942 in Westwood, MA daughter of the late Herbert and Mildred (Ellis) Westbrook. She married James A. Hanover Sr. on June 23, 1960 in Maine, they were happily married for nearly 51 years. Connie and Jim moved to Jericho, VT in 1973 where they raised their three daughters and one son. Connie had been employed as a tax advocate with the IRS in Burlington until her retirement. She was the “rock” of the family and enjoyed cooking and baking for large family gatherings. In retirement, she and Jim traveled extensively, visiting family in Europe, California, Arizona, New York, Virginia and Georgia. Above all, Connie’s great love was to visit her grandchildren. Although she suffered a stroke in 2009, she was blessed to have retained her excellent memory and with Jim’s constant love and compassion, they continued to visit their many grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She was always looking forward to all the events in which they were involved. Her support and devotion to her family preceded anything else in her life. The sacrifices she made for her family, even though she didn't consider them a sacrifice, are numerous. Her children often relied on her to pass down family stories. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her. She is survived by: her loving husband James A. Hanover, Sr. of Jericho; her son James A. Hanover, Jr. and wife Andrea of Arizona; her three daughters: Kathleen Hanover and Jennifer Bennett of Long Island, NY; Joanne “Joey” Johnson and husband Keith of Underhill; Julie Royer and husband Mark of Georgia; her mother-in-law Mary Hanover of MA, Three brothers: Herbert Westbrook and wife Judy of ME; Robert Westbrook of FL; Kenneth Westbrook and wife Ginger of NH; Sister-in-law Maureen Gaffney and husband Timothy of Italy; Nine grandchildren: Cody, Michael and Ryan Johnson, Seamus, Liam and Delaney Hanover, Chase, Kylee and Cole Royer. Her faithful companion “Bentley”, several nieces, nephews and an aunt. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 27, 2011 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Essex Chapel. Funeral services and inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
