Dexter Morse Obituary

An Ode to Dexter L. Morse Cathy Williams, a nurses's aid, leaned over to whisper into Dexter's ear. “It's three straight.” Everyone knew it dealt with the plight of the Boston Red Sox after 10 straight losses. A slight crease of approval would come over Dexter's lips. For Dexter L. Morse, 71, the life of this gentle, kind, humble man would revolve around man's cherished possessions. “I feel so blessed,” was Dexter's mantra. Dexter and Donna merged and intertwined so well. Is it any wonder that Eric and Tyler are cut of the same cloth and respective their lifetime partners, Kim and Sara; and there's Allison and Jade. Allie's attentiveness and Jade's crossover dribble down the lane. Doing what granddaughters do. It was always this way, doing the guiding as Grandma Adams and Uncle Dick did. This is where Donna came in. Her gift is the knowledge and nurturing powers of what makes family works. Let us digress. Sister Deanna and Brothers Donnie and David didn't always live together. This would only make the bond stronger in later years – all making it to our Seventies.. On a recent visit to our beloved Camp Abnaki in North Hero the present day director would take us aside where we could be ourselves. “Just close your eyes. Just close your eyes,” he directed...”It will sound just like 60 years ago. Boys at play. Just imagine. Just imagine.” A visitor to the celebration of family and community life on Bayview Road in recent days offered, “I already miss him. Oh, this is the brother from Florida. He always talked about you.” “I was very sorry to hear of your brother's passing,” an e-mail offered. “I have enjoyed hearing you talk about him and the love that you so obviously shared.” There was the shared admiration of the Red Sox, even Spring Training in central Florida. Dexter called a couple of springs ago. Where are you at? “Velander's pitching.” That's all he had to say, rubbing it in. Dexter and Donna were at Marchant Stadium, Lakeland to see the Detroit Tigers. There would be others as winter dragged on up north. There was hiatius from the green, green grass of home, made necessary by a transfer at IBM, where he worked for over 30 years; to Manassas, Va. Where Eric and Tyler spent their formative years. The draw was too strong to come back to the Green Mountains and that panorama over Lake Arrowhead, the sun shimmering as far as the eye can see. Dexter said all he ever wanted was a boat dock and the birds that migrated each season. All his brothers wanted were to be like him! He was such a kind and gentle soul, so admired by all who came in contact with him. Tonya and Dr. Jeffery Haddock came not to administer as much as to share love. We shared mac and cheese and lasagna. Lite dressing for us with Type-II, like something is creeping in. Neighbors and family came to tidy up the property like Dexter would like. A ramp had been built at the front door by a volunteer group of family and friends. We lived by Grandma's commandments. “Bless this food to our use. Thus to our service. And may we be every mindful of others. In Jesus' name we ask it all.” If you wish, recite the Lord's Prayer. The Red Sox are in extra innings. They win a fifth straight. Then it's time for a day of rest. Dexter L. Morse Georgia Dexter Lynn Morse, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Georgia on Thursday May 29, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
