Douglas Millette Fairfax, Vermont Obituary

Douglas Millette

Douglas R. Millette Essex Jct. Douglas Richard Millette, 52 passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday March 8, 2013. He was born in Barre, VT on November 1, 1960 son of the late Michael and Mary (Sullivan) Millette. Doug was a unique person, a true native Vermonter who reveled in the wonder of its beauty everyday. You could often hear him playing the "Too Fat Polka" on his beloved accordion. But he loved nothing more than his five children and four grandchildren. He loved people and people adored him back. He had an undeniable presence wherever he was. His greatest gift was his ability to care for and help others, usually with a grand and infectious smile that once you have seen you will never forget. He loved to cook, to hunt with binoculars, and dearly loved his family, his fiancée, and many many friends. He played hard but also worked extraordinarily hard his entire life. He was a chef at St Michaels College, a carpenter at Millbrook Building and Remodeling, and he proudly served the Vermont National Guard in Desert Storm and was deployed to Saudi Arabia. It is now his time to rest in well deserved peace. Doug is survived by his children: Kristie Salyer and husband Stephen of Underhill; Kaylynn Millette-McGuire of Essex Jct.; Michael Millette and wife Amanda of South Burlington; Kevin Millette of Essex Jct.; Skylar Millette of Essex Jct.; His siblings: Barbara Barnier and husband Scott of Essex Jct.; Steven Millette and wife Kathy of Essex Jct.; four grandchildren Gavin Ladue, Silas Salyer, Scarlett Salyer, Keirsha McGuire; his fiancée Barbara Gregoire of Hudson, MA; several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was also predeceased by his brother Michael Millette Jr. in 1978. What must be noted is Doug was an honorary member of the Ryan family in Essex Junction. He considered Thomas and Barbara Ryan to be his second set of parents and would often refer to them as “Mom and Dad”. They in turn included Doug and his family in holiday celebrations and kept in constant contact. Throughout the years he also maintained a close relationship with Kristie’s mother Cathy Ryan Harrington and her husband Todd Harrington. He will be greatly missed by all of the Ryan family. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday March 13, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Essex Chapel, 57 Main St., Essex Jct., VT 05452. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michaels Chapel, Colchester on Thursday March 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Richard Berube, S.S.E. officiating. Inurnment will be in the Spring at the convenience of the family in the family lot in Green Mount Cemetery, Montpelier a time and date to be announced.
