E. EDITH THOMPSON MARTIN E. Edith Thompson Martin, 104, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Redstone Villa in St. Albans, Vermont with her loving nieces by her side. Edith was born September 5, 1909 in Gillett, PA the daughter of the late Harry and Julia (Gordon) Thompson. Edith is pre-deceased by her beloved husband, E. Lewis Martin, and sisters Gladys Thompson Niles and Mildred Thompson Ackerman. Edith graduated from the Elmira Heights High School and the Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital School for Nurses in 1931. She married her husband on July 16, 1938 in Horseheads, NY. Edith was a devoted wife and homemaker who loved to travel with her husband. She was a lifetime member of Oakwood United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Morning Star Chapter # 289 in Marcellus, NY. Edith is survived by her nieces Dona M. Erickson of Westford, VT and Linda Niles Faber of Rhinebeck, NY, great nieces: Karen Erickson Chapman of Westford, VT, Sue Erickson Traynham of Spring Hill. FL, Amy Faber Knobbs of Seattle, WA, Donna (Mark) Erickson of Nichols, NY and Carol (Bruce) Erickson of Elmira, NY; great nephew: Win Faber of Rhinebeck, NY; along with several generations of other nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held on Monday January 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira with Pastor Fred Dyer of Oakwood UMC officiating. The family will provide flowers and requests that donations in Edith’s memory be made to Oakwood UMC, General Fund, 212 Oakwood Avenue, Elmira Heights, NY 14903. Arrangements are by John D.
