Ethel Coburn Obituary

Ethel J. Locke Coburn Waterville/Richford Ethel J Locke Coburn, 94, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Our Lady of the Meadows. Ethel was born on March 15, 1917 in Waterville, Vermont. She graduated from Haverhill High School in Woodsville, NH. While Ethel worked as a housekeeper and a child care provider, her biggest job was grandmother. She took care of many of her grandchildren at one time or another and there are many fond memories of the sand box. She also wrote the Waterville column for the News & Citizen for many years. She was a member of the Waterville Cemetery Association and attended the Church of the Nazarene for many years. She enjoyed going to the senior meals and the many friends she made there. In her last few years Ethel resided at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford. She thought of it as her home and enjoyed the ladies that took such good care of her. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading, watching birds and she loved flowers. Every Saturday night she looked forward to watching the Lawrence Welk show with her friends. Ethel was predeceased by husband Raymond Coburn, grandson Randy Duffy, great grandson Allen Coburn, brother Gerald Locke, sister Hazel Emery, son in law Hector Bushey, and daughter in law Sandra Coburn. She leaves son Larry Coburn and friend Phyllis, daughter Rebecca Duffy and husband Roger, daughter Cheryl Fuller all of Arizona, daughter Judy Bushey of Jeffersonville, son Robert Coburn and wife Mary of Jericho, sister Virginia Pierce of Essex, son in law Ralph Fuller of Waterville, 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her cat Butterball that she had for many years and was happy that he has a good home with Robert & Mary. At Ethel’s request there will be no visiting hours or service, there will be a private family service at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to “The Residence Fund” at Our Lady of the Meadows 1 Pinnacle Drive Richford, Vermont 05476 or to a charity of your choice.
