Eva Champoux Obituary

Eva J. (Grenon) Champoux Williston Eva Jeanne (Grenon) Champoux, 64, died at home in Williston on Sunday October 3, 2010 from complications of lung cancer. She was born on November 14, 1945 in Barre, Vt., the youngest child of the late Frank and Louise (Shangraw) Grenon. Eva attended St. Monica’s School in Barre and was a proud member of the class of ’63 of Marian High School. Following graduation she was employed at National Life Insurance Co. in Montpelier. In November of 1965 she married John Champoux of Montpelier. They lived in several towns in Vermont where they raised their children. After settling in the Burlington area she worked as a professional secretary at the Vermont Cancer Center, UVM Dept. of Surgery, and UVM Office of Health Promotion Research. She retired in 2004. Eva had many interests. She was an avid reader of fiction, with mysteries and English historical novels being her favorites. She enjoyed watching television and was very adept at solving “who-done-its” well ahead of anyone else. Traveling by car and seeing the many wonders of the United States gave her great pleasure. A lapse in treatments and major side effects allowed a 7600 mile trip across the southern US visiting friends and family in March and April. If you saw or met Eva, it didn’t take long to discover her affection for giraffes. They were never far away from her in some form. She is survived by her husband John of Williston, son John Champoux and wife Katie of Breckenridge, CO, daughter Jennifer Cowen and husband Scott of Hopkinton, MA, and five grandchildren who gave Memere much pleasure. She is also survived by brother-in laws Max Pelkey of Waterbury and David Champoux of Calais, sister-in-law Nancy Covell of Middletown, NY, stepbrothers Monty Soucy and wife Sonny of Barre, VT and Marcel Soucy and wife Dolores of Fort Smith, AR, and her Aunt Yole Shangraw of Barre, VT as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Eva was also predeceased by her stepmother Annette, brothers Frank and Julius, sister Yvonne, and stepsisters Anne and Rhea. The family would like to thank Dr. George Phillips and Nurse Julie Shevlin, Dr. Tom Roland and Nurse Jeanne Sheehey and their staff in Radiology Oncology, as well as the Hospice Team that made it possible for Eva to spend her last days at home. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday October 7, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Essex Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Williston with the Reverend Donald J. Ravey officiating. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Graniteville, VT.
