James H. Close Sr. Williston James H. “Jim” Close Sr., 73 passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at FAHC after a long illness. Jim was born on August 6, 1940 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville to the late George and Elfrieda Close. Jim served his country in the Navy before going to St. Johnsbury Trade School where he trained to become a heavy equipment mechanic. On June 12, 1971, Jim married Florence Hoare. Jim and Florence had two children: James Jr. and Carol. On October 26, 1988, Jim suffered a head injury while on the job. Over the next 25 years, Jim had many peaks and valleys as a result of his injury. Jim overcame many obstacles and it’s a testament to his determination and resilience. Jim was a hard working, fun-loving family man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Jim is survived by his Honeybun, Florence, his son Jim Jr. and his girlfriend Michelle Sweet, his daughter Carol and her husband Travis Leno, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Jim leaves behind five sisters: Louana and her husband Neil, Sandra and her husband “Frosty”, Sheila and her husband Don, Sharon and her husband Richard, and Brenda. Jim was also predeceased by his sister Alice and his brother Edward. Jim’s family would like to thank his caregivers Catherine, Adrian, Judy, Annie, Ann, Stacy, and Marilyn for their tireless work caring for Jim over the years. These folks were a second family to Jim. Per Jim’s wishes there will be no public visiting hours held. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Essex Alliance Church, 37 Old Stage Rd., Essex Jct. with Pastor Joe Moore officiating. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family in the family lot in Deer View Cemetery, Williston.
