JAMES D. CRAWFORD ST. ALBANS James D. Crawford, 70, a lifelong resident of St. Albans, passed away Aug. 15, 2010 in his home after a long battle with illness. Jim was born in St. Albans on June 14, 1940, the son of late William T. and Mary (O’Lena) Crawford. He married Dianne Guilmette on July 18, 1963. A 1958 graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School, he served in the U.S. Air Force until 1962. He attended Vermont Technical College, where he completed a degree in mechanical engineering in 1966. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Mayo (2004) and brother William (2005). In addition to his wife Dianne of 47 years, he leaves behind two sons: Matt and his wife Becky Martell of Georgia and Patrick and his wife Heather of Sheldon. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Cylas, Eli and Phoebe Martell-Crawford and Wyatt Crawford. Survivors also include his brother Keith of Swanton, in-laws Gaylord and Lois Boucher, Ronaldo and Jean Guilmette and a number of nieces and nephews. Jim was an avid hunter and angler and spent much of his time on his boat, “Crawdad” on both Lake Champlain and Lake Ontario. His professional career was spent at IBM in Essex Junction. He retired in June 1995, after more than three decades there. He was a member of American Legion Post 1. The family thanks the efforts and compassion of Joyce Williams, Marty Lemnah, Mary Ellen Sanders and Franklin County Home Health. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
