James Scrodin Obituary

James Joseph Scrodin, 89 passed away at St. Albans Health and Rehab in St. Albans, Vermont on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. He was born in Livingston, NY on March 21, 1922 son of the late Alexander and Amelia (Durnack) Scrodin. He was raised in Linlithgo, NY on what was known as an “apple farm”. Jim graduated from Germantown High School and later enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. After the Coast Guard, Jim returned to Moriah, NY where he purchased a dairy farm, later known as Blue Ribbon Dairy where they also raised many horses, Shetland ponies, and chickens. Jim retired from International Paper in Ticonderoga, New York in 1984. After his wife Dorothy’s death in 2006, Jim moved to Vermont to live with his son, Mike and wife Diane. Although Jim always said that animals belonged outdoors, he soon learned that his new best friend and companion would become their cat “Kitty”. Jim loved golf, the New York Yankees and the New York Jets. Despite living in a Red Sox household, he continued to be a diehard Yankees fan. He is survived by: his four sons: William Scrodin from Moriah, NY and his children Alex & Lindsay; John Scrodin from Seattle, WA and his daughter Christina; Michael & Diane Scrodin from Colchester, VT and Mike’s daughters: Aundrea & Jeff Campbell from Fort Worth, TX and their three children: Bryce, Ethan, and Abigail Mikala Scrodin & fiancé Jeremy Wacker from Fort Worth, TX; Thomas Scrodin & his partner, Lori from Fairfield, VT and his son Chris & Sarah Scrodin from Bristol, VT and their children Savannah and Caleb his stepdaughter: Barbara & Tim Magila from Schenectady, NY and their daughter Marlene; his stepson David Stankunas from Schenectady, NY and his children: son Richard and daughter Susan & Gary Trubell from Rocklin, CA and their children; his brother: Thomas & Kathleen Scrodin from Santa Clara, CA and their children Eileen, Dan and Teresa; two sisters: Dorothy & George Anthony and Teresa Lane, all from Ocala, FL; his niece Lynne & Bob Westervelt and son Jeff Zephyrhills, FL. He was also predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 2006, his daughter Cynthia Scrodin in 1996 and his sister Barbara Lasher. We want to thank the staff of Home Instead who offered support and caring for Jim while living with Mike and Diane. Thank you also to Brownway Residence who provided him a warm, home-like atmosphere. A special thanks goes to the staff of St. Albans Health and Rehab where he was lovingly cared for until he died. Although we each have our own special memories of Jim, we know that he now has a front row seat for all the Yankees and Jets games. Memorial contributions in Jim's memory may be made to American Cancer Society There will be no public visiting hours. A graveside service with inurnment will be held in New York in August with the time and date to be announced.
